Island Escape at Kaya Mawa this Christmas
With it’s almost supernatural vibe, there is nowhere else on earth quite like Kaya Mawa. Hidden away on Likoma Island in Lake Malawi, you’ll be transported into a world of simple pleasures. While you won’t find your traditional Christmas tree, you’ll be enchanted by Likoma Island’s ancient baobabs and mango trees, encircled by glorious sandy beaches and rocky coves.

Avoid the Christmas fuss and instead let the charming local staff spoil you with a champagne breakfast, sunset drinks and canapés and a moonlit three course dinner on the beach. To top it off, enjoy a spa treatment listening to the lake water lapping and over 100 species of birds. For the more adventurous, explore the clearest waters on the lake snorkelling or scuba diving, or enjoy the exquisite views from paddle-boards and kayaks.
For a more traditional Christmas, you’re welcome to join the Islanders with their celebrations at St Peters Cathedral, which was built at the turn of the century by Universities Mission to Central Africa. A remarkable building, which measures more than 100 meters and the choir stalls carved out of soapstone with elaborate decoration.. The crucifix above the pulpit is made out of a branch of the tree under which David Livingstone’s heart is buried.
Kaya Mawa is approx. 50 minutes from Lilongwe International Airport by light aircraft.
